Like the piece on my music
page, "Sycamore Tubs" is an anagram of "Embassy Court" -
This is a film that appeared on the CD as an extra
"QuickTime" track. "As Ruby's Comet: The Sycamore Tubs
E.P." is the result of a 2005 music and arts residency in
Embassy Court, one of Brighton's most striking sea-front
apartments. I was commissioned by Bluestorm Ltd to put
together an E.P. and film for "Vive Moderne" - the
re-launch of this modernist towerblock. This is that film.
So the title is an anagram. I firmly believe that anagrams
contain hidden truths and I often hide anagrams of
characters in my stories as protagonist / antagonist. But
there was a nice bit of synchronicity in this piece. I was
making a film about watching paint decay on the walls of
this tower block which is a little more exciting than
watching paint dry.
So because of the "Sycamore" anagram of "Embassy Court"
(the building where paint fell off walls) - I decided to
film some Sycamore trees in Brighton and Hove and use these
images alongside the paint peeling. Well, wouldn't you know
it! The Sycamores looked like paint peeling as well as
containing the anagram of the building itself! I will soon
upload the film to this page. I liked the way the paint
became like cartography, and everything looked very
Falkland Islands-esque! (above).
