I was initially known as a
director, but became somewhat exasperated at making
documentaries - like my South Bank Show - where I would
direct work about other artists, when I'd rather have been
discovering my own modes of self expression. I was very
proud of the level I'd been working at in my mid twenties,
but the downside was I felt that my wings were being
clipped in broadcast television. So when I got the chance
to live in California for six months in 1998 to do some
very low paid work doing a documentary for PBS on Native
American rock art, I took it. And it changed my life. I
spent much of the next few years trying to write a novel
about it. I'm still at it in 2008!
Anyroad, I stopped doing the film and tv stuff and started
much lower down the pecking order when I got back to the
UK. But at least it was a pecking order I enjoyed more.
There was no large scale crew, it was my own work now,
godammit!
This section includes work made before during and after my
brief sorjourn in broadcast. Please note, the film clips
are displayed using the players from myspace.com and
youtube.com - they are embedded flash players and don't
really reflect the quality of the works here, which were
generally made with broadcast standards in mind. It's just
these players work on nearly any browser. I am happy to
supply showreels on DVD to anyone who wants one. Contact
me.
